Rebecca Tapscott

Through my art, I strive to create a world where nature, humanity, and creativity intertwine harmoniously. As a multi-disciplinary visual artist based on Bundjalung Country in Northern New South Wales, Australia, I draw inspiration from the diverse landscapes and animals within the nature world and the rich cultural heritage that surround me.

Murals

Rebecca began creating murals  back in 2000, focusing on environmental awareness and community culture. Each new mural has a more defined focus on biodiversity and how we can live together in harmony. Today her practice has collaborated with schools, Indigenous and community groups that cover a diversity spectrum of our society.

Rebecca is the founder and creative director of Power Pole Project; Outside/In. In conjunction with the Kyogle Council, Kyogle Chamber of Commerce, Local Schools, Indigenous and Community are painted with imagery of the animals found throughout the LGA are linked to habitat.

Cyanotype

The cyanotype prints evoke the natural cosmos with their deep hues and intricate details. Influenced by her cancer journey and a contemplation of mortality, Tapscott's connection to the Earth deepened, intensifying her awareness of environmental losses. This embodiment permeates the prints, imbuing them with vulnerability and impermanence, serving as a reflection of the fleeting nature of existence. Each animal is memorialised with an epitaph, a poetic tribute to its life, highlighting both personal and planetary fragility in a world of diminishing biodiversity. Interspersed among the prints are those adorned with intricate continuous lines and vivid colours, encouraging viewers to delve deeper into the narrative. The overlaying of mediums creates a metaphorical echo, linking the tangible and the ethereal, the present and the absent.
